How do I qualify for gastric bypass surgery?
You must be 18 or older, have a BMI of 40 or more, or a BMI of 35 plus and one or more co-morbid conditions (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, severe sleep apnea, osteoarthritis), along with a history of previously unsuccessful weight loss attempts (under medical supervision), and a stable psychological condition.
What is the process involved with laparoscopic weight loss surgery?
The preoperative process includes a consultation at Surgical Associates in Evanston, preliminary blood work, dietician visits, and clearance by a psychologist. Additional tests may be needed depending on your medical situation. An additional period of medically supervised weight loss may be required depending on your insurance.
What is the recovery time from lap band surgery?
On average you will be in the hospital for one or two nights for recovery. Expect another 2-4 weeks for full recovery back to normal daily activities. Strenuous exercise or heavy lifting will be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
